SCi Entertainment CEO talks about the company
Can Eidos Interactive be a world leading company again? MCV has recently interviewed Phil Rogers, new CEO of SCI Entertainment after Jane Cavanagh was forced to resign during a finnancial crisis of the company. Through the interview, Rogers seems to be sure that the answer to that question is an overwhelming yes.
Despite having had to cancel 14 game projects, Rogers justifies that the company had been working on "too many average games, and in today's environment of lenghtening development cycles and increasing costs, we need to be more ruthless and focus on quality titles." Additionally of the cancelled projects, four of the major 2008 titles -- including Tomb Raider: Underworld -- were delayed, and Rogers said that the main focus of the company right now is to make sure these games are fantastic. As previously reported, some of the projects have been relocated to Eidos Montreal, in Canada, where the government offers economic advantages to the gaming industry.
People believe that Eidos has arrived late to the top selling gaming platform Nintendo Wii, but Rogers assures that Tomb Raider: Anniversary Wii Edition was a successful outing, and that there are plenty of top quality Wii products on the pipeline. Stressing "quality", Rogers also adds that the Eidos current porfolio is complete, with huge franchises, next-gen titles, casual and mobile games; but there is no point in bringing titles which are average or below. Focusing on getting back on track regarding quality standards, Eidos might be set to be world-leading again.
